About The Exhibition
The Art of Creation will be presented in partnership with the University of Southampton and the John Hansard Gallery as part of the British Science Festival in September 2026.
This collaboration carries particular significance.
The University of Southampton is where Professor David Barker first articulated the concept that early development shapes lifelong health; the foundation of what is now known as
the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD).
Bringing the exhibition to the place where this scientific framework originated closes
an important circle for the program.
At the British Science Festival, Art of Creation will be installed within
the John Hansard Gallery, creating space for dialogue between researchers,
clinicians, artists and the broader community.
In addition to the Exhibition, we will deliver a series of structured workshops with pregnant participants in Southampton, continuing our commitment to grounding the work in lived experience.
We are equally focused on public engagement.
Through hands-on learning sessions, guided discussions, and interactive programming, festival attendees will have opportunities to explore how early development influences lifelong health
and to consider practical approaches to supporting healthy pregnancies.
This partnership reflects both the scientific roots of early origins research
and the evolving ways in which it can be shared.
Presenting Art of Creation Exhibition and its programming in Southampton,
at a major science festival and in collaboration with a leading contemporary gallery,
highlights the growing recognition that art can function as a credible and effective method
for translating complex developmental science to diverse audiences.
